Twenty-Ninth African American Read In

Saturday, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and the United Black Book Clubs of Pittsburgh are partnering to sponsor the the Twenty-Ninth African American Read In. 

“In 1990 the first African American Read In was sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English. The Read In has been endorsed by the National Council of Teachers of English and the International Reading Association. Over a million readers of all ethnic groups, from 50 states, the District of Columbia, the West Indies, and African Countries have participated. The goal is to make the celebration of African American literacy a traditional part of black history month actitivities.”

The theme:

  • Literary Healing: Libertian Through STEAM (Rising to the Top)

Choose to read a book out loud for 2-5 minutes by or about an African, Caribbean, or African American concerning science, technology, engineering, art, or math.
